Try out the new CO2 transport calculator

Most analysts agree that transport accounts for the largest slice of CO2 emissions associated with the events industry. Whether it’s delegate travel or kit being freighted around the country, the way we manage transport has a huge effect on the sustainability of our events.

To recognise this we have now added a transport CO2 calculator module to eventberry. This allows you to enter travel details for all delegates and measure how you can improve from event to event. The output from the calculator is included in your final report allowing you to benchmark transport CO2 for your projects.

eventberry at the Sustainable Events Summit

eventberry was a key partner of the Sustainable Events Summit 2010 which took place in London on 19^th April. The keynote speaker, Jonathon Porritt CBE, gave a rousing opening address with a call to the events industry to embrace a more sustainable future. Other participants included LOCOG, 10:10 and the GLA.

eventberry staff demonstrated the system and explained the advantages to using the online system to manage sustainability at events. .

Curious about ISO20121?

You may have read reports recently about the development of a new international standard to mirror BS8901 - to be called ISO20121. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a global benchmark for sustainability in the events industry, and we’re right behind it. It will take some time for the standard to be developed, and it’s likely to launch in 2012 to tie in with the London Olympics.

So - does this mean you should sit back until then? We don’t think so. The new standard is going to be closely modelled on BS8901, and an understanding of the existing standard will be a valuable first step towards compliance with the new ISO.

In a nutshell - if you currently comply with BS8901, it’s 90% likely that you’ll also comply with the new international standard. So now is the time to get started on the systems you need to claim compliance. We’re here to help - let us know if you have questions. As ISO20121 is launched the eventberry site will be adapted to allow you to claim compliance internationally.

Help with the new version of BS8901

You may have read recently that a revised version of BS8901, the British Standard for sustainable events, has been published. At Seventeen we have been strong advocates of the standard and we welcome the new, clearer format for BS8901. Naturally some of the changes may seem complicated at first so we have compiled a short fact sheet explaining our take on the new standard.

We’re constantly working on eventberry to make it the best system possible to manage sustainability at your events. We’ve recently updated the system to allow venues to manage their internal compliance to BS8901. If you manage a venue and want to have an informal chat about how you could become more sustainable, get in touch.

Organisers will notice a few changes when they log in this week as the latest round of upgrades have gone live on eventberry. If you’re an organiser with a live project, log in now to check it out in your message board. If you aren’t yet signed up to the system now is a great time to join! Don’t forget the basic system is free whether you’re an organiser, venue or supplier.

Sustainable Events Summit

We had a great day demonstrating eventberry at the Sustainable Events Summit 2009 which took place on Friday, 22nd May at One Wimpole Street, London. We’re now live! As you can see it’s quite a change. But don’t worry - all your project data is still there. The new eventberry system is going to make your life easier while greatly increasing the amount of data you can get to track the sustainability of your events.

The site is now live so we can test it in real time - let us know if you spot anything which isn’t working. This process should last at most 48 hours so please accept our apologies in advance for any short term inconvenience. It will be worth it, we promise!
